Escort Passport 8500 X50 works in the X-band, K-band, Ka-band, and at the Laser emitted frequencies, or lidar using multiple sensors. The display modes consists a 280-LED matrix-text, a bar graph, SpecDisplay and ExpertMeter.

 The ExpertMeter display informs the driver of the band frequency and the relative signal strength on up to eight separate radar signals all at the same time; LEDs arrange in multiple columns represent a different signal.

The SpecDisplay displays the numerical frequency of the detected signal. Customizable audible alerts increases in volume level as the relative to the incoming signal's strength, or the closer the signal source, the louder it gets. The 8500 X50's sensitivity controlscan can be set on highway, highly-filtered city mode, and AutoSensitivity; the latter makes us of an advanced signal rejection circuitry which separates real detector signals from background noise, such as the frequencies emitted by remote garage door openers, to reduce disconcerting false alarms.

It has a microprocessor which can be reprogrammed and customized gives a degree of future proofing against emerging law enforcement technology. These options allow the driver to select individual signal bands (on or off), selections for the three meter display, a mute and an AutoMute, as well as two audio tone levels. The unit is designed to be completely immune to the VG2 "detector-detector". The onboard microprocessor is upgrade friendly, and can be worked on in the future to compensate for newer technologies.
